USB Programming Cables
As technology has progressed over the past five years the humble RS232 serial port
has been the major casualty, once the only means of communicating with the outside
world but now a painfully slow method of passing on digital information. Modern
day laptops positively bristle with USB ports but ask for an RS232 port and you
can double your entry price.
Let's use USB then, it's easy to connect and fast(ish) but, if you happen to be
an Engineer, then suddenly you have a whole host of legacy equipment who's very
existance depends on that RS232 port to receive instructions and to report back
on its findings.
But help is at hand in the shape of the USB to Serial Converter, those four small
words strike fear right into the heart of any automation engineer. Why? No one USB
to Serial Converter ever seems to work consistently across a broad range of product,
computer hardware or operating system.
The aim of this small micro site is to offer for sale a range of USB programming
cables where traditionally a serial cable was needed. These cables have been tested
on a variety of operating systems and with a few different software packages. We
also have offer a USB to RS232 converter that works in most applications, to be
fair, the current generation of USB Serial converters are much better than the early
models.
Lastly we do have some RS232 serial cables for Mitsubishi Electric PLC's and Unitronics
OPLC's.
